0

Lice infestation is called as pediculosis in medical terms. It is a very common condition found in many people, especially school going children and women all over the world. Infestation of lice on the head leads to relentless scratching of the scalp. The very act of scratching when done in the view of others in the public can be extremely disgusting. It is considered unhealthy. As a matter of fact, louse spreads from person to person by close head contact. As a result, an infected person found scratching, unassumingly becomes a loner in the group. This is indeed a depressing situation.

There are different ways of treating lice infestation but none of them is a one time solution. Use of chemical pediculicides, silicone based lotions, natural solutions, combs and hot air are some of the most advised methods of getting rid of lice. However, it is observed that these treatments give only momentary relief and need to be repeated at regular intervals of 3-4 days to maintain their effectiveness.

The most popular chemical pediculicides found in market are DDT, pyrethrum, malathion, carbaryl, etc. Not all of these pediculicides are effective and some of them are actually dubious. It has been observed the lice gradually, in the due course of time, begin to develop resistance against them and render them useless.

Silicone based solutions get rid of lice in the hair by coating the lice and eventually smothering them by suffocation. Though this method of treatment is effective, it is mandatory that it is repeated at least once in 3-4 days. Lice can also be effectively got ridden off by use of natural solutions like neem, tea, coconut and aniseed oil. This method is one of the oldest and most popular ways of treating lice.

Combing the wet hair with louse combs is also an effective as well as one of the cheapest ways of getting rid of lice. This act should be repeated after every 2-3 days so that the newly hatched lice and their eggs can be regularly removed from the hair. Use of hot air is also a very effective of killing lice.

Hence, it can be seen that there are many ways of getting rid of lice but the only thing is that they all need to be repeated at regular intervals in order to be effective.
